Aged Care regulator sharpens focus on care minute targets ahead of financial penalties

The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission (ACQSC) is increasing its focus on aged care providers failing to meet mandatory care minute targets, ahead of new financial penalties set to take effect in April 2026.

According to the ACQSC’s latest Sector Performance Report for March 2025, over half of its 562 risk-based assessments were focused on care minute compliance, with 10 providers still under enforceable undertakings due to significant ongoing shortfalls. The report highlights the Commission’s growing regulatory oversight, particularly for services with large gaps in meeting workforce responsibilities, including 24/7 RN requirements.
